Peggy Ferris - Abstract Gestures
Life’s Random moments captured in color and form.
Peggy Ferris is a life long designer and artist living in Santa Barbara. Design is inextricably interwoven with the concepts of her paintings. This IS how a designer paints. These Series of Paintings started as casual experiments in Acrylic and Mixed Media on Yupo, a synthetic paper. They have gradually grown into several series and a body of work of their own. In these gestural abstractions, abstract, non-objective forms suggest a feeling, mood or energy associated with a physical place, state of mind or a memory. This work seeks a balance between spontaneous gestural expression and the structuring elements of architecturally derived forms and the square format of the composition. Essentially, the paintings may be seen as a form of reverse technology: a complex electronic image, deconstructed into its components, and reconstructed into a hand-made, one-of-a-kind 21st century interpretation of life’s moments and emotions.

About the Paintings
The “Metropolis” Series: Explores the predominantly vertical forms experienced in Manhattan, almost as if the horizon line, as we know it on the west coast, was turned on its end. The paintings seek to convey both the energy and the sense of vertigo associated with these shapes.

The “57th Street” Series: A recollection of the forms and sounds experienced in Manhattan, New York.

The Skid Marks Series: Skid marks, near collisions, and living on the edge, the price we pay for being fully engaged in a no-holds-barred existence.

The “Ephemera” Series: fleeting moments of unintended beauty, which once experienced, tend to vanish quickly
