““The creation of images of vigor for a decadent period, images of calm for one too violent, images of reconciliation for a world torn by divisions, and in an age of mediocrity and shattered dreams, images of abounding, generous, exuberant beauty.” - Michael Tippett, American composer 1905–1998 |

The Corridan Gallery is proud to present an exhibit of Paintings, “Imaginary Realizations” is a sampling of Lawrence Wallin’s wide-ranging work. In this exhibit he observes “an age-old tradition to create images from the depth of the imagination”. Given a smaller selection of Wallin’s work, one might think they were viewing a “group show”. In this larger body of work, several themes appear which tie the pieces into a total “Oeuvre” of a contemporary master. Wallin addresses these themes by alternating between abstraction and representation in several different mediums and styles. In one series he explores the beauty and character of international cityscapes. In another series, very large-scale landscape paintings are appropriate to his expansive vision of the majesty of nature surrounding us. Much of his work is a celebration of the Arts, especially Dance, Drama and Music. As an example, in this exhibit the movement and grace of dancers are shown in realistic Paintings, abstract Drawings, Bas Relief and three-dimensional Sculptures. While he found no single style or medium that could embrace his dynamic subject range, this diversity and multiplicity of artistic treatments fully addresses the complex set of Wallin’s themes. The exhibit will run from September 19 through October 28, 2007. |
