Lastyear was busy one for Karen Fedderson. She was commissioned to paint two large “landmark” paintings for the new Cottage Hospital main lobby. She set up a new studio in her Carpinteria home to work on one of the paintings, while she completed the other in her Santa Barbara Studio. These two Triptych paintings are each 6’8” high and 20’ wide. “Peace, A Quiet Evening”  shows a panoramic view overlooking Santa Barbara’s West side and State Street with the Santa Ynez Range catching the colors of sundown in the background.  The other Triptych, “Hope, A New Day” depicts a bright early morning after a storm on the Santa Barbara Coast. From Stearn’s Wharf one sees all of East Beach with Ortega Hill, Rincon Peak and Carpinteria beyond. In the far distance Boney Ridge and Point Mugu in Ventura County, 50 miles away, complete this “Larger View”.
After installing these iconic paintings 19 feet above the floor of the lobby, Karen went on to create Limited Edition archival pigment prints on canvas, up to 10 feet in length, based on these beautiful paintings. The maquette of “Hope, A New Day”, submitted for the cottage Hospital competition, will be in the show as well.
